Railbird skiff 1 Jim Stockton

Designer: Traditional
Builder: Jim Stockton
Built: 2018

This design is a traditional hunting skiff used to shoot small birds called rails in northern America. The skiffs were poled through reeds by one person standing in the stern while a hunter with a shotgun stood in the middle of the boat. In their modern reincarnation they make an excellent bird watching platform.

They have an arc bottom and narrow beam to ease their passage through swamps. This one is 1m wide, 4.7m long and needs about 100mm to float.
