In March the Association supported two large community events, the Geelong Wooden Boat Festival and the Ballarat Begonia Festival. I thank all association members who supported through their presence or through the boats they displayed. I would especially like to thank Rob Ripley who was OOD for the three days of the Ballarat Begonia Festival and Quinton Wilkinson who acted as Mine Host and Liaison with the Ballarat Yacht Club. In Geelong, Brian Flewell-Smith was our OOD ably supported Andrew Cohen. When transport arrangements fell through for Begonia to go to Ballarat, Andrew towed her down to Geelong for the wooden boat festival. There are more detailed reports on both events later in Shavings.
In April we have our club night on 18 April and sailing day on 22 April. We have as our guests for the sailing day the members of the Illawarra Model Boat Club. There will be a barbeque on the day and we ask that members bring something for the table in the order of nibbles, salads or sweets/cake to assist. As well as sailing our own 12 inches to the foot boats there will be a great range of superb models on the water. This will be our first sailing day at Albert Park for 2012, so I hope we will have a good turnout of members to catch up with.

When the man of the house stated that he was going to cut Green Pea in half, what could I do but shrug the shoulders and walk inside without comment.
Then there it was in two pieces!
Several members arrived on Thursday afternoon at the Albury Wodonga Yacht Club, Andrew Cohen with Begonia, Chris Kelly with Will'o.. and David Gibson with his Swan Bay 12 . In the sunshine and humidity, they set up camp and launched boats etc. Thursday evening , it started to rain and continued for the next two days on and off.
"I'm pregnant! " proclaimed my wife Liz as she excitedly passed me the test stick with the two blue lines on it. It was at this time that my heart skipped a beat, as I am sure it does for all males when they hear these words.
For me it skipped with excitement that sparked an idea. Maybe I could build a cradle boat like the one I had seen at the Tasmanian Wooden Boat Show when I was there in 2009.
The Wooden Boat Association was formed in 1989 for people who enjoy wooden boats and wooden boat building.
Members appreciate wooden boats for their aesthetic qualities, the beauty of the boats and the materials from which they are constructed, and the pure romance of wooden boats.
In this age of mass production, each wooden boat is as individual as her owner.
Ballarat Yacht Club advises that they have 3 Mirror Dinghies surplus to requirements. These wooden boats are easily restorable, in need of some TLC and a good home, and come with rigging and sails.
If interested please send your tender price for these yachts to Brian Canny, Immediate Past President of the Ballarat Yacht Club, at bcanny@vic.chariot.net.au by 21st April 2012.
