President's report

During April, a large number of eager members have attended the work sessions at Greg Blunt’s boatyard to work on the three club boats. All have been rubbed back and to date most have had their interior refinished. It has taken longer than the committee originally thought but it has been one f the best activities the club has seen in recent years as the many members who have contributed have enjoyed the company, chat and the satisfaction of a task well done. Last month we found ourselves back at the Albert Park Yacht Club for the club night and sailing day. Attendances were rather small but the activities were not to be missed and a full description occurs later in Shavings.

As I write it is now May and the end of term for the current committee looms. The members current committee have worked hard and long to promote the interests and activities of the WBA. For many members circumstances can change and for the current Shavings Editor and your president that has been the case. This means that the positions of President and Shavings editor fall vacant as well as that of Treasurer as Richard Jackson completes his term of 3 years according to the Articles of the Association. I call on you, the current members of the WBA to consider contributing in one of these positions or to be willing to come onto the committee to perhaps release current members of the committee to stand for the vacancies. Active membership of the committee is the best way to get the most out of your membership as it provides opportunities to contribute and to meet the wider membership. Also the time to renew membership subscriptions falls due at the end of June and the committee is currently reviewing our needs and finances to be able to report to the AGM in July.

Club Boat Working Bees

Saturday work sessions are still running!

The refurbishment of the club boats continues successfully. At present both boats have been repainted inside and the various items, stern sheets, floor board etc have been treated. Unfortunately the process has taken longer than originally thought but over the next couple of Saturdays in May we hope to reinstall the internal features of the boats and canoe. Therefore Saturday sessions at Greg Blunt’s boat yard will continue at the same time from 10 am to 3 pm until the task is completed. Our thanks go to Greg for the use of his yard for the extended period. So come along and help complete the work so we can get the boats back in the water for the May Sailing day.
